I presented this yesterday at the graduation of JKUAT’ Endeavor Program MIT-AITIx. It was great to see the good stuff happening there with mobile tech training and innovation. I was thoroughly impressed by the student’s efforts.
A while back the Will Smith movie titled iRobot showed. A world where everyone has a personal robot that does all of that ‘robotic’ stuff for them. A machine that is a human-like and does what it is programmed to do exactly as it is programmed to do.
Its an interesting notion, isn’t is? And there’s a lot of work going into developing robots and especially robots that mimic human behavior in the hope that someday maybe we will be able to create a workforce of machines that are super efficient. We’ve seen it all in the sci-fi movies.
However, I find that looking all around… there are robots everywhere. Yes! Robots. Everywhere you look, all around the planet. Human Robotics in action. Why do I say this? Well, because I find that we humans, endowed as we are with phenomenal intellectual and cognitive skills often find that w behave like robots.
Don’t believe it? Well, the larger part of the human population lives a life that is well planned out. It follows a straight pattern, never changing, often trying to replicate what we have been taught life is, or what life means. Never stepping beyond boundaries. Never exploring anything… just obediently following the motions of life. Go to school, hopefully go to college, get a job, get a husband/wife, spend the rest of your life chasing after money or slaving for money and eventually move on from this life.
It’s no wonder that very little creativity or innovation comes through. Mark you I am not saying that this is a rule evident in all humanity. There are people who have dared question life and go beyond set rules and make their own. Make meaning of their lives. Thats where I want to be. I want to make meaning. I want to live a life that is meaningful. Not fit into a pattern.
In any case, that is why robots would exist – because they fit patterns. Don’t be a robot. Make meaning.

Many people I know are afraid. They would rather stick to traditions they don’t understand (or traditions that are irrelevant today). They are afraid their little cocoon world will fall apart and they will not belong anywhere. So they would rather stick to the same old norms.
