I promise I will finish what I started.
But for now I just want to spill some beans for now. If you remember this post, I probably left a few people wondering what I meant, exactly!
Well, I was privileged very recently to interact and interview with a very respectable company. A company whose innovation has taken the world of technology as we know it to very new heights. If you look around the blog you will probably (and you don’t have to be very sharp to figure this out!) be able to at the very least narrow down to three companies!
That night I was having a phone interview with them (i had had a phone screen with them like two/three weeks earlier).
I did not get the internship, but believe me it is an experience I will treasure for a long time. I never ever saw it coming and I am very grateful for the experience and the challenge was very exciting as well. (If you know me, you know I live for the challenge!)
It was a great gauge in terms of competency. I am literally a ‘local boy’ and this was one great opportunity to in a manner of speaking rub shoulders and interact with some great minds. It was really special to be able to see where I am at and also where the standard for software engineering is in the international arena and especially with this scale of companies that are all about innovation and creative problem solving! And now there is what I call an ‘upward tensile force’ on my life as an engineer (still an armature engineer but am just calling myself what I know I am becoming). I have been exposed to a whole new world hear and of late I have been watching tonnes of videos about some great work at MS Research, Yahoo Research and what’s happening at Google Labs. I must admit, I have a new found respect for Microsoft, those guys are doing SERIOUS stuff at MS Research!!!
My mind-set is no longer programming (it has not been that for a while), and interesting neither is it, software, or software engineering!!! It’s PROBLEM SOLVING; interesting problems, interesting solutions, creative solutions, thinking out of the box, as someone very rightly called it: A HEALTHY DISREGARD FOR THE IMPOSSIBLE! I have this interesting habit where I look a t a challenging problem and think ‘hmm, that looks pretty impossible’, but like i said, i live for the challenge and normally after a short while i will start thinking ‘but what if… or what if…’ and finally ‘aha! so it isn’t impossible, and i learned something new on top of it all’, what I have to work on is get to initially thinking ‘this is do-able’ instead of ‘this looks impossible’. It also helps to be a bit stubborn!
Here is something I am reading right now, its about problem solving techniques!
Cheers people!

Wilfred,
A lot of people think that Microsoft is just sitting by the sidelines and watching Google run the show. Far from it.
I do hope you make it to America so that you can run, literally, with the giants. There is a lot happening over here while the rest of the world is in deep slumber.
